Honey Lollipops Recipe for Colds - Sugar, Spice and Family Life (1)

My poor toddler is sick this week 🙁 I took her to her first toddler playtime class andunfortunately she ended up picking up germs.Apparently, myhand sanitizing as soon as we got to the car was already too late to help. It has been a rough couple days especially since she hardly ever gets sick. I didn’t have any cold medicine so I went online to the natural brand I like to see if they had anything locally I could pick up. But unfortunately my toddler is too young for their cold medicine and their cold lollipops are only sold online.

I already knew that honey is really good for colds and coughing so I decided to make my own lollipops. I had honey and sticks so Iwas ready to start making them. In a saucepan, I cooked the honey until it reached hard crack stage on the candy thermometer (302 F). Then I spooneda teaspoon of the hot honey onto parchment paper and placed a lollipop stick in it so it was covered. I quickly made the rest of the lollipops while it was still hot. Then I let the lollipops cool for 10 minutes to harden. My toddler was anxiously waiting and was excited to try one. She loved them and kept asking for more.

Honey Lollipops are a great natural way to ease cold and cough symptomsfor anyone ages2 to 102.

I always use honey & cinnamon when we’re sick but I never thought of this! It’s so easy & genius!

This is such a good idea! Studies have shown that honey soothes a cough as well as over-the-counter cough syrups – and a lollipop would probably offer less of a choking risk than a regular cough drop! Pinning this.

This is a fantastic idea! My baby girl just got over a really bad cough and cold, and I gave her honey to ease her cough symptoms. She would have LOVED the lollipops. I’m pinning this for later too!

Ok…you’re a genius! We’re a natural family and have been since I was in high school (so a really long time.). For over 20 years I have never thought to make a honey lolli for when they’re ill. I always gave spoonfuls to eat and added it with cinnamon or lemon to hot tea.

    Seriously…GENIUS!

What an awesome idea. I remember when I was young my mum used to give me a spoon of honey. Whilst I love honey, it was a little hard to stomach. This is such a better idea!!

I usually just make them to last for a day at a time. But if you put them in the fridge, they would probably last for awhile.

I love this! My kids are older so I may try making more of a drop than a lollipop. I will also add doTERRA Lemon essential oil bc it also helps to decrease coughing and cold like symptoms. Plus it just tastes yummy with honey. In fact, our homemade cough drop now is a tsp. of honey with a drop of lemon on top.

My son asks for hot honey with lemon whenever he is not feeling well. This is a “why didn’t I think of it” moment since we all know how well a bottle of honey travels! Thanks!!!!
